Use a fun technique and colored pencils to create a pattern on the wings of a butterfly.
Your first goals are to sketch the proportions of a butterfly and outline the various shapes of the wings and body. Then, you impress a pattern of dots into sections of the drawing and add gradations of shading with colored pencils to enhance the pattern and/or texture.

Suggested Supplies: Thick white drawing paper or paper board, colored pencils, a large and small blunt stylus (and/or other objects with small rounded points), sharpener, and erasers.

Draw Butterfly Shapes: Outline your butterfly proportionate to the drawing in this lesson.
Indent a Pattern: Use your creative license to design a pattern of S shapes, C shapes, circles, and/or curved lines.
Add Color to Your Butterfly: Choose whichever colored pencils you prefer to add shading to your butterfly creation.
