Description
This is a class for beginners, where students learn value and shading. Students will need black, white, and gray paper; drawings pencils; black, white, and gray colored pencils; black and white charcoal pencils; black, white and gray chalk pastel, erasers, rulers, and blenders or q-tips. Students will draw an object in pencil using chiaroscuro- all parts of the value scale and blending. Students will learn about the different parts of a shadow- direct light, indirect light, highlight, halftones, shadow, core of shadow, reflected light, and cast shadow. In colored pencil, students will create a 10 square value scale ranging from white to black. Students will draw objects in 5 different value patterns- high key value, low key value, middle key value, tenebrism, and chiaroscuro- in black, white and gray colored pencils. Students will create 4 compositional thumbnail sketches in pencil before creating completed drawings. Students will draw a 3 or more object still life on black paper (1 black object, 1 gray object, and 1 white object). Students will choose their favorite compositional thumbnail sketch. Students will block in objects on black paper with white charcoal pencil. Students will shade with black, white, and gray chalk pastel or charcoal. Students will add the light and medium values, and leave the black paper as the dark value. Students will draw a 3 or more object still life on gray paper (1 black object, 1 white object, 1 gray object). Students will block in objects in black or white charcoal pencil, and shade in black, white and gray chalk pastel or charcoal. Students will add the light and dark values, and leave the gray paper as the middle value. Students will draw a 3 object still life on white paper with black, white and gray colored pencils. Students will add the medium and dark values, and leave the white paper as the white value. Students will blend the colored pencils to create shading and shadows.
