This is a study of the writings of Pausanias, a native of Asia Minor who chronicled his extensive travels in Greece in the second century AD. Pausanias' approach to the art and artists of the pre-Roman past of Greece is also considered. The book begins with a discussion of the historical, political and cultural background to Pausanias' work.
