The author recounts how a TV beer commercial sparked an interest in flying which led to a 25-year career in the U.S. military, flying helicopters for the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard. He shares several significant life events and heart pounding missions that have influenced the course of his life. The author also shares his amazing journey to a saving faith in the ultimate Rescuer.Darcy Guyant was born and raised in central Wisconsin. During his senior year of high school, he discovered an interest in flying and earned a FAA Pilot Private Pilot license. Upon graduation from high school, Darcy was accepted into the U.S. Army's &quote;High School to Flight School&quote; program, graduating from Army helicopter flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, on December 1st, 1981, and was promoted to warrant officer, at the age of 19. Darcy flew the UH-1H &quote;Huey&quote; for six years, serving in the Republic of Korea and at Fort Rucker, AL, as an instructor pilot. While serving as an Army instructor pilot, he also attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University earning a Bachelor of Aeronautics degree. In 1987, Darcy accepted a direct commission into the U.S. Coast Guard, beginning an 18-year career as a Coast Guard officer and helicopter pilot. Coast Guard duty assignments included Port Angeles, WA (twice), Aviation Training Center Mobile, AL, Kodiak, AL, and Training Center Yorktown, VA. His final Coast Guard assignment was as head of the National Search and Rescue School at U.S.C.G. Training Center Yorktown. Darcy retired from the Coast Guard in 2005 at the rank of commander and with 25 years of military service. During his flying career, he logged over 6,250 hours of helicopter flight time, saving and assisting 100s of lives. Darcy and his wife, In Sun, now live on a lovely lake near Olympia, WA. They have two children, Jennifer, an emergency medicine physician, and Gordon, a software engineer, and one precocious granddaughter, Gwenyth, who he loves to spoil. Darcy remains active in his church, particularly in children's ministry, and volunteers daily at a public school, assisting teachers and students.
