Learning and using English verbs for college and business CAN be easy - if you know how.
It's simple, really.
As you probably already know, memorizing dictionary definitions of words won't get your vocabulary to the level you need for your job or academic program.
How do you do it?
That's what I'll show you in this course. I won't just tell you how to do it. I'm going to show you. That way, you can begin using this technique, too.
Using advanced vocabulary is extremely important (imperative) if you want to get (receive) a high score on the TOEFL exam. But what vocabulary is important? Which words do people actually use? And which ones are the ones that you can use effectively to improve your TOEFL score?
In this course, I move beyond (transcend) the random vocabulary lists and provide you will a set of must-have (essential) verbs that you can begin using right away (immediately) in your practice exams.
Moreover, I will provide you with more than just definitions. As shown above, I will show you how to begin looking for opportunities in your speech and writing to use (integrate) advanced verbs.
After taking this course, you will have more tools available to you when you take your exam. You can have confidence that you know a set of useful verbs that will elevate your writing.
This course will help you to:
- Build confidence in your English speaking and writing
- Have a better understanding of the real advanced English verbs that you will encounter frequently
- Be able to focus your attention on less common English words and spend less time looking up words
- Find the words you need quickly and use them correctly
- Show yourself to be someone with a strong grasp of English to professors, classmates, and employers
In lieu of long lists of verbs for you to memorize only to forget right when you need the vocabulary the most, I’ll take you step-by-step through practical vocabulary showing you how and when real native speakers use those particular verbs.
Also, all of the lessons are snack-sized so that you can view and review them anytime, anywhere.
What this course will do is provide you with a set of tools that you can have in your pocket ready for the exam. Afterwards, these words will help you in your courses during class discussions, speaking with your professors, study groups, writing reports, and taking written tests.
Long vocabulary lists may seem impressive, but there’s really only a fraction of those words that native speakers, even professors, actually use. Why do we use those particular words? Because they’re practical. They express the things that we want to say.
What about the other words? Don’t they express things that people want to say? Yes, of course they do. However, using vocabulary that is too advanced for the particular scenario or slightly off in shade of meaning will actually make you seem less, not more educated.
Additionally, there have been many times that I have worked with an English learner who tried an impractical vocabulary word (without knowing it) and received weird looks or even laughter.
This is the unfortunate case: Using vocabulary that is not practical, no matter how advanced, is going to get strange responses from native speakers.
That is why I have created this course.
You can begin using these words immediately. Any educated person will recognize these words and also recognize you as a person who has a strong grasp of English – not somebody who got their vocabulary from a list.
In short, this course will help you become more fluent because it will help you use words in your speech and writing in the way that native speakers do.
Will you need to know more words than this for the TOEFL? Yes. Some vocabulary you’ll just need to memorize for the test.
I empathize. I learned words for standardized tests that I have never, ever encountered in real life. Nor did I encounter them on the test. However, it’s better to be overprepared than underprepared.
Also, by having a solid foundation in advanced verbs, you can then focus your attention on the words that are unfamiliar to you. I’m a native speaker with a degree in English and years of writing, editing, and helping English learners improve their English – yet I look up words every day. Every. Day.
Will this be the only advanced verb course that you’ll ever want? I hope not. I hope that you will continue learning new verbs and taking new courses long after this. My goal is to create the only English verb course for college and business that you will ever need.
