This is a truly magnificent book - almost the definitive book - for those interested in British military archaeology which chronicles the evolution of the silos, bunkers, airfields including Greenham Common and its cruise missile facility, missile launch pads, nuclear munition stores, radar installations, communication systems, seats of government etc that functioned in the UK during the period of the ‘Cold War’. A world parallel to our own civil life in those days when the word ‘crisis’ and ‘confrontation’ was in everyday use by the media. Extremely well researched it is undeniably the best book published to date on the subject. A really fascinating book which today provides great reading entertainment, but if you remember the absolute fear of October 1962 and the ‘Cuban Crisis’ it is a real eye opener to what was functioning out of sight and reach behind tons of concrete and reinforced steel.
