Description
This course explores decision-making frameworks for managing negative externalities. You'll learn about the difference between dilemmas, trilemmas, and tetralemmas, as well as how to think about pricing externalities. You'll also gain an understanding of the impacts of these frameworks on competitive advantage, business models, ethical issues and more.
In Module 1, Chandran Nair, Chairman of GIFT.ed, and Professor Hideaki Takahashi, former Keio University professor, help you understand how managing externalities is a pathway to keeping within planetary boundaries. You’ll also gain insight into the need for policymakers and people in business to practice ethical decision-making as part of that process.
Module 2 features Professor Christine Loh of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She talks about the significance of evidence-based decision-making in forming policies and promoting responsible corporate behaviour. You’ll also be introduced to decision-making frameworks that will help you evaluate potential solutions.
One country leading the transition toward the implementation of a circular economy is the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In Module 3, we hear directly from H.E. Abdulla bin Touq al Marri, Minister of Economy for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about the project across the region.
In Module 4, Sharan Burrow, former General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), takes us through various decision-making frameworks that balance societal benefits and trade-offs.
