Repertoire & Techniques for Country & Folk Fingerstyle Guitar

Fingerstyle guitarists have insatiable appetites for new songs they can add to their repertoire. This is especially true for country and folk player whose audiences love to hear the instantly recognizable melodies of standards from the folk and country songbook.

Take Gareth Pearson’s Country & Folk Fingerstyle Guidebook to the shed and you’ll emerge with 8 new fingerstyle arrangements under your fingertips — enough to fill an entire set’s worth of crowd pleasers!

”The eight songs I've chosen for this songbook are instant crowd pleasers. Melodies that people recognize instantly, upbeat grooves and intricate harmonies that have multiple layers. They're also great exercises to learn standard boom chick patterns over extended chord progressions. Plus, you'll learn how to add inventive melodies on top of independent bass lines.”

Gareth will kick off the course with a relatively simple arrangement of the classic folk song, Greensleeves. You’ll then learn the Russian folk song Korobeiniki, also known as the Tetris theme. Next, you’ll dig into a dome home arrangement of I Am a Pilgrim and then the bluegrass standard, Old Joe Clark.

Two great jazz standards, Chinatown, My Chinatown and Whispering add a little diversity to your repertoire. You’ll wrap up with a great ragtime number, 12 Street Rag, and then finally, Daisy Bell (A Bicycle Built for Two).

Gareth has created beautiful rich arrangements of these classics that are all very accessible for the intermediate fingerstyle guitarist. Each of these song arrangements are also great exercises for learning standard boom chick patterns over extended chord progressions and adding inventive melodies on top of independent bass lines.

Whether you gig out or just play for your own enjoyment, you’ll have a blast learning these timeless tunes and your audience will love them!

Gareth will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the Performance Studies. In addition, you’ll be able to loop or slow down any of the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace.

Grab your guitar and let’s get pickin’ with Gareth Pearson!
