John Cunningham Lilly (January 6, 1915 – September 30, 2001) was an American physician, psychoanalyst and writer.

He is best remembered as a pioneer researcher into the nature of consciousness using as his principal tools the isolation tank, dolphin communication and psychedelic drugs, sometimes in combination. He was a prominent member of the Californian counterculture of scientists, mystics and thinkers that arose in the late 1960s and early 70s. Ram Dass, Werner Erhard, Richard Feynman, Gregory Bateson and Timothy Leary were all frequent visitors to his home.

Here is a collection of some of Lilly' books and projects, all included in one pack!

John C Lilly – The Deep Self : Consciousness Exploration in the Isolation Tank

First published more than 20 years ago and now with a new introduction by the author, this classic work presents the methods and conclusions of more than 25 years of experimentation with the isolation tank meditative experience. Drawing on the personal testimony of many who tried it, including Burgess Meredith, Gregory Bateson, E. J. Gold, and Jerry Rubin, the evidence shows how, by eliminating the presence of shifting physical input patterns, the tank allows participants to dive deep into their subconscious and focus immediately on their inner perceptions. The different domains of reality and how various experiences with solitude affect different people are discussed along with practical details on the standards for isolation tank manufacture and use.

[^^The above description is for the 2006 reprint, but it applies just as well to the 1977 edition :)]

In today’s world, many people seek shelter from the stresses and stimuli of everyday life as a way to reconnect with their inner reality. Scientist John C. Lill, whose work inspired the films Day of the Dolphin and Altered States, devised the perfect means of finding serene self-awareness: the isolation experience. The Quiet Center presents the core of Lilly’s groundbreaking isolation experiments and the path to higher consciousness. As a leader in consciousness research, Lilly, like his peers Timothy Leary, Alan Watts, and Carlos Castaneda, should be read by a new generation seeking to discover truth about themselves. By learning to create their own isolation space, readers will discover the healing powers of the "quiet center." Photos and illustrations are included.

John C Lilly and E.J. Gold – Tanks for the Memories: Floatation Tank Talks
English Ebook | PDF (not OCRed) | 19 Mb | ISBN: 0895560712 | Author: John C Lilly and E.J. Gold | 160 Pages | Published 2001 (Second Printing)

The first half of the book is worth reading- Dr. John C. Lilly giving talks on the floatation tank. But the second half consists of talks given by one E.J. Gold. I found his speaking style to be incredibly obscure to the point of being unintelligible (and I've read many books on mysticism). He's supposed to be a shaman and shows irritation at a child entering the room. His drawings, which are scattered throughout the book, may actually be worse than his talks if that's possible. They are little sketches unrelated to the material which look to me to have been drawn in about 30 seconds at most. I came away feeling insulted after the EJ Gold section.
