Description
If you're a technology professional being asked to move from an individual contributor to a team leader or manager, this course is for you. Leading a team is very different from writing code or handling IT tasks; it concerns itself with clear verbal and written communication, well-defined tasks, workable deadlines, and answering (many, many) questions. This course covers management from a technology perspective. Using a nuts-and-bolts approach, I walk you through all of the fundamentals of management, specifically tailored for the technology professional. I cover elements such as good communication basics, including clarity, vocabulary, eye contact, and so on; getting to a firm definition of done and enforcing it; setting the context of tasks; understanding how to set appropriate deadlines; fostering questions; and mentorship. All you need to be successful with this course is a willingness to learn and the desire to build an effective team and get things done efficiently. The goal is to leave you empowered to make a successful move from an individual contributor to a team lead or manager and be an effective layer between your team and the superiors you report up to. I look forward to demystifying management and helping you take the next step in your career.
