In this class, I'll walk you through the process of turning your product idea into a product design.

If your goal is to ultimately produce and sell a product, it's not enough just to have an idea, or even samples and sketches. In order to work with factories and suppliers, you'll need a formal design, which includes specifications, documentation, and professional renderings and samples. You'll also want to perform product-testing on your design, and incorporate feedback from potential users.
This class is NOT just for creative-types or design-savy students! We'll also talk about the design professionals who can assis you with the technical parts of the creative process.

What You'll Learn
You will go through a step-by-step design process that includes outlining concepts, creating visuals, selecting materials, sampling, gathering feedback, choosing colors & finishes, creating design documents and more.
Outlining. I'll discuss the importance of outlining your product idea and what to think through.
Doing Research. I'll walk you through different ways to find inspiration and collect your research.
Renderings. I'll show you how to go about creating rough sketches or renderings of your product design.
Identifying Materials. I'll review various sources for materials and how to get swatches and samples.
Creating Samples. I'll discuss how to create both rough and final prototypes.
Testing. I'll talk about gathering feedback and how to properly test your design.
Creating Documents. I'll dive into how to create the documents that a supplier will need to reproduce your design.
