Network Intrusion Detection (3rd Edition)
Good morning, community :-) To tell you the truth, while doing yesterday's sprint in posting here I just had to reboot like 7 or 8 times because of a system slowdown. And this is despite the fact, that I use ShadowUser for quick dumb system status restoration. This is not to cause a polemic about how individual systems should be chosen/configured/maintained, but my spyware shield kept alerting about really high activity of worms trying to get (or, maybe, getting) into my system. And also referring to late dos attacks here I thought that another intrusion detection book might still come in handy. And yes... I know that many here are hardcore IT rats ;-) And nevertheless - there might not be too much security.
Greets to all of you doing this place a "come back" one :-)
Offtopic: still lazy to do all the stuff with fonetic RU keyboard. So still practicing my english here. If you guys are offended by this - let me know - maybe I'll try to make this one more effort ;-)

The Chief Information Warfare Officer for the entire United States teaches you how to protect your corporate network. This book is a training aid and reference for intrusion detection analysts. While the authors refer to research and theory, they focus their attention on providing practical information. The authors are literally the most recognized names in this specialized field, with unparalleled experience in defending our country's government and military computer networks. New to this edition is coverage of packet dissection, IP datagram fields, forensics, and snort filters.
For some reason Amazon states this book to have 512 pages, but my acroreader shows only 345... On the other hand, Amazon sells a paperback version. O.K. - this was just a warning.
