Follows the evolution of the air arm through significant events and campaigns which have shaped today's USAF. The extensive detail begins with the present day major commands and unit structure, and commands which were in place in 1947 and have since been superseded. The largest chapter covers current active duty flying wings and autonomous groups, with full details of their formation and changes of designation, home stations, aircraft types, years assigned, and a history of each unit. Each unit emblem is shown in colour. Almost 50 aircraft types are currently in service or planned for the USAF. Major bases within the USA, and overseas, as well as minor installations are examined, with details of the units and types resident at 1st January 2000. A separate chapter provides coverage of strategic and tactical missiles, and other weapons carried by USAF aircraft.
