Requirements
- No prior braiding experience needed – this course is beginner-friendly
- Students should be between the ages of 9–16 or guided by a parent/mentor
- Access to basic braiding tools such as: Mannequin head or a practice partner - Rat tail comb, sectioning clips, wide-tooth comb-Braiding hair (optional), hair ties, and edge control
- A notebook or printed workbook (optional) for journaling ideas and business planning
- Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to practice regularly
Description
The Youth Braiding Academy is a fun, hands-on course designed for students aged 10 to 18 who want to explore the art of hair braiding and Business. This eight-week long journey blends skill-building with creativity, culture, and confidence. The course begins by introducing students to the rich history and cultural significance of braiding. From there, students learn about hygiene, professionalism, and the proper tools needed to work safely and effectively.
Throughout the course, students are guided step-by-step through a variety of braiding techniques, including knotless braids, box braids, cornrows, and feed-in styles. These lessons are designed to be easy to follow and highly visual, making them ideal for beginners. As students practice and improve their skills, they also develop discipline, patience, and a sense of pride in their progress.
More than just a braiding course, the Youth Braiding Academy empowers young people to express themselves through a respected cultural tradition while building practical skills they can use in daily life or even grow into a business opportunity.
