    THE DIRECT HITS were active on the 60s and Mod Revival circuit for the first half of the 1980s, issuing a string of now highly collectable records. Having evolved out of new wave band The Exits, THE DIRECT HITS formed around 1981 and signed to Whaam! Records, the label run by TV Personalities frontman Dan Treacy. First single ‘Modesty Blaise’ was a perfect blend of power pop, Mod rock and 60s stylings. Today, it sounds like Britpop over a decade too early! Compiled and designed by DIRECT HITS’ frontman Colin Swan, Here, There Or Anywhere is a comprehensive collection of the band’s output – and their first CD reissue for many years. Alongside ‘Modesty Blaise’ are tracks from their cult debut album Blow Up, issued on Whaam! in 1984, 1985 single ‘She Really Didn’t Care’, rare live tracks and a few selections from their second album House Of Secrets.

    This extravagant six-CD set documents the astonishing life span of the first pop independent label in the U.K., Immediate Records. Founded in 1965, Immediate flipped, flopped, and staggered its own way, competing against unhip American labels like EMI and Decca until late 1969. The label, and the documentary CD set, showcases in particular the Small Faces, who enjoyed a brief U.K. number one hit, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. More familiar to American listeners will no doubt be the three-chord sock-hop favorite "Hang on Sloopy" by the McCoys, and a number of covers of familiar American folk-rock hits are present as well. The esoteric collector will appreciate inclusions by such café balladeers as the Poets and Les Fleurs-de-Lis, also signed by Immediate before the advent of the swinging London sound, marked by the Rolling Stones revolution and other mod developers influencing the pants off the tiniest studio cover bands.

    The Deram Anthology 1966–1968 is a compilation album by David Bowie, released in 1997. It collects together most of the material Bowie recorded for Deram Records that has been previously released in some form, including the 1967 debut album in its entirety (tracks 5-18), in chronological order. Tracks 24–27 were mixed/recorded in 1969 after Bowie was dropped from Deram Records and were for the promotional video "Love You Till Tuesday", made to sell Bowie to a new label. Thus Deram originally had nothing to do with these tracks.

    While they never scored major commercial success in either the United States or the United Kingdom, the Creation inspired a cult following during their original 1966-1967 run that continues to grow with the passage of time, and with good reason. The Creation's pre-psychedelic fusion of mod style and freakbeat sound was intriguing enough, but the real key to their music was the guitar work of Eddie Phillips, who combined forceful, elemental picking with feedback and the use of a violin bow (years before Jimmy Page embraced the idea) that allowed him to conjure singular sounds from his axe.
