Edith Fowke, E;Fowke, "Red Rover, Red Rover: Children's Games Played in Canada"
    English | 1988 | ISBN: 0385251599, 0385251726 | 159 pages | EPUB | 5.4 MB

"Red Rover, Red Rover: Children’s Games Played in Canada" is a survey of
the games played by English-speaking children during the present century.
Children’s games are among the earliest Anglo-Canadian folklore recorded:
many have long histories but others have obviously modern origins.

The games are arranged into 15 sections. The categories used include
catching, seeking, hunting, duelling, acting, word, and marble games. Both
indoor and outdoor games are described, including such popular ones as
“Mother, May I?” “Ante, Ante Over the Shanty,” “What Time is it, Mr Wolfe?”
“Spin The Bottle,” “Fox and Geese,” and, of course, “Red Rover, Red Rover.”

Children everywhere spend many happy hours playing games and
memories of childhood games last far into adulthood. This delightful
collection is guaranteed to keep these games alive.

Edith Fowke is Canada’s best known folklorist. More than twenty books,
countless articles, and eight record albums are the result of her years of
study of Canada’s oral heritage. Her most recent book was "Tales Told in
    Canada", published in 1986.

In 1985 the Canadian Authors Association gave her the Vicky Metcalf
Award for a body of work inspirational to Canadian youth. She is a Fellow
of the American Folklore Society and the Royal Society of Canada, and is a
member of the Order of Canada.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Edith Fowke now lives in Toronto
where she teaches folklore in the English Department of York University.

    =====

An interesting collation of children's games, many of which may be familiar
to you, no matter what age you are.

While it is a survey of games played, it can also be used as a resource
to find new games to play.
