Organic Chemistry.

The mere phrase strikes fear in the heart of many students. Featured as the class that crushes dreams and dashes hopes, thousands of students take the course every year. It can be the first few chapters of organic chemistry that dash the hopes of many pre-meds and biologists, and often, chemists and chemical engineers. This book here provides new help for students struggling through the first sections of organic chemistry: from molecular bonding to hybridization to dot structures and beyond.

The material begins easy enough with a review of general chemistry, and stuff that should be a review for many students, especially if the course followed gen chem 1.

Then the fun begins.

The introduction of isomers and nomenclature adds the first level of complexity to a tough subject. Organic chemistry at this point moves from rote memorization and familiarity with the periodic table to a spatial science, where seeing the longest chain, or the ways of rearranging C atoms are not always apparent. Thus the organic chemistry professor is left with several trick questions that provide the class its curve, and sends the first batch of students to the chopping block, where some escape with a "W" and others, with more stubbornness, take their "F"s later on.

Subjects covered:
What is organic chemistry?
Bonds
Molecular Formula
Saturation Chemistry
Resonance
Skeletal Drawings
Molecular Hybridization
Acids and Bases
From 2D to 3D
Isomers
Stereoisomers (alkenes)
Molecular Attractive Forces
Hydrogen Bonding
Nomenclature (alkanes and cycloalkanes)

This is the first book in the series, and the second one I've written on this subject. Future books will be based on this format, and will probably be much easier to get out for me, the author.

I am a Ph.D. geochemist who has tutored students extensively in organic chemistry. As I learned quickly in tutoring, the only way to successful learn (and teach) the subject is to do it over and over. This book should not be used to replace your attendance in organic chemistry, but to supplement the course. Feedback is instant, and there are a lot of questions you can answer (including 2 quizzes with 20 questions each). This books will help you pass (or even ace!) Organic Chemistry. The price is right, too!

Because the exams are interactive (you click on your answer) I strongly recommend using a touch-enabled device to read this book.
