As a physiotherapist, I have long been disappointed with how back pain in those over the age of 50 has been treated. Too much emphasis has been put on passive treatments such as massage, prescription pain medications, TENS and ultrasound, which rightly all have their time and place. But, an improved and more structured approach is needed.
