This monograph reports a thought experiment with a mathematical structure intended to illustrate the workings of a mind. It speculative rather than empirical, based mainly on introspection, so that it differs radically in attitude from the conventional wisdom of current cognitive science. No doubt this will cause a negative reaction from many readers. My only defence is that the elegant simplicity of the proposed structure will make it seem plausible, indeed likely to be true, as a representation of high level thought processes. It would be presumptive to claim that it will eventually be accepted as the correct model, but I hope that the very attitude will turn out to be productive.
