E SURESH KUMAR, "Engineering English"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 8125057218 | 100 pages | PDF (scan) | 68.3 MB

Effective communication plays a very important role in our working as well as personal lives. Young students enrolled in professional courses need to be familiar with the nature, purpose and functions of communication in order to successfully play their roles at work in the future. 'Though several books are available on communication skills, they are either too elaborate or too concise to serve the specific needs of Indian students. This book is intended to fill that gap.

Engineering English, meant to be used as a core textbook by students of engineering, will help them to develop their oral and written communication skills and, thereby, enhance their employability. Students will find practical tips on essential aspects of oral and written communication, such as effective listening, interpersonal communication, and writing reports, summaries, resumes and different kinds of letters. A very simple style has been adopted throughout the book in view of the needs of the Indian student.

The book has been divided into two parts. Part 1 covers the four language skills:
listening, speaking, reading and writing. It also contains notes on some important of English grammar and vocabulary.

Part2, 'Reading for Enrichment', consists of a selection of texts—in the form of interviews, biographical accounts and a speech—on people who are inspiring role models, which students are likely to relate to and enjoy. The texts will enable students to enrich their language as well as reading comprehension. The exercises that follow these reading passages are designed to give students practice in the communication skills and grammar and vocabulary topics covered in the first part of the book.
