An extreme preoccupation with sexual fantasies, desires, or behaviors that are uncontrollable and cause misery or injury to your relationships, job, health, or other areas of your life is known as sexual addiction. The most widely used lay phrase for addiction is sexual addiction. These actions may be referred to by medical professionals as compulsive, troublesome, hypersexual, hypersexual disorder, compulsive, or impulsive sexual conduct.Even though sex addiction comprises behaviors that can be typical of a sex life, such as masturbation, pornography, phone sex, cybersex, many partners, and more, the indication that you may have a sexual addiction is when your sexual thoughts and behaviors take over your life.
Accurately calculating the data on sex addiction is challenging, in part because this category of addiction was formerly disregarded. Adults in the United States could be classed as sex addicts in the range of 6–8%. There may be up to 24 million people involved.
The prevalence of sex addiction may be rising as more sexual content, such as pornography, hookup apps, and sexually explicit internet content, is available. According to research, 4.7 million American adults view online pornography for more than 11 hours every week.
