Introduction of Competency-based Medical Education has offered scope for creative thinking among medical faculties. Despite the spoil-sport played by COVID-19, the
implementation of CBME has fueled several activities in the field of medical education.
A competency-based medical curriculum envisions the safe and rational use of drugs.
To cater to the needs of pharmacology faculty and students, several books involving the
new competencies have been published in a short span. Though a few books on SGD
and its practical aspects have seen the light of the day, the vastness of the subject keeps
throwing challenges to every author and the reader alike.
I am extremely happy to note that Dr Rakesh Chandra Chaurasia has authored the
book Competency-based Pharmacology Practical Exercises to cover the practical aspects of
pharmacology as prescribed under the latest CBME Curriculum for the Indian Medical
Graduate. He has the experience publishing books Basic Pharmacology, Antimicrobials,
and Medicines in Clinical Practice. Dr Chaurasia is a renowned senior pharmacologist and
also a pediatrician. He has incorporated his dual expertise to stress on clinical relevance
of the small group teaching/learning exercises.
I congratulate Dr Chaurasia for his untiring efforts in bringing out this book. I am
sure that both faculty and students will benefit immensely from this book and will find
it a useful tool.
