Scales, Arpeggios, Chords, Exercises, The complete guide to playing piano. Scales and arpeggios This book presents major and harmonic minor scales and the major and minor arpeggios in all three inversions, with fingerings for each key. Most of these scales and arpeggios are to be played with the hands placed one octave apart; also some are written two octaves apart for greater visual clarity. For scales played on black keys, we have chosen those with as few alterations as possible and avoid double sharps and double flats. Chords No fingerings are provided for the chords, since various fingerings are possible for the same chord. The fingering you use will depend on the circumstances. To keep the musical notation of the chords as simple as possible, we use enharmonics, which refers to two notes with different names that produce the same sound. It’s important to mention that there is some confusion surrounding the notation of the minor 9th chord. Classical music uses certain alterations, while jazz and pop music uses others. In this book, we use popular and jazz notation. Exercises These exercises begin on G and finish when you reach the G one octave higher. To descend, start on C and finish when you reach the C one octave lower.
