Contacts between Hungary and the Western Mediterranean continue to be infrequent. Peoples of both regions know very little about the past, present and culture of each other, although both countries are members of the same European, political and cultural union. This is the reason why in the past several years state leaders suggested repeatedly on their meetings and negotiations to change this situation. Recent experience shows that well prepared and organised cultural events or seasons pique the interest of people and even businessmen in the receiving country. The present Catalan-Hungarian exhibition is especially important since Catalonia is one of the most developed regions of the European Union.
