This volume mainly focuses on the relevance and application of Heckscher-Ohlin Model and Specific Factors Model of trade, while also addressing other latest global issues which are connected with two most celebrated structures of trade models developed by the legendary trade theorist Prof. Ronald Winthrop Jones. The two models were published as 'The Structure of Simple General Equilibrium Models' (1965) and 'A Three Factor Model in Theory, Trade and History' (1971). Both the structures are used extensively by trade economists and development economists to decipher a bunch of interesting and intertwined ideas. In March of 2018, 44 African countries signed the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement (AfCFTA) to launch what is considered as the largest free trade area in the world. The signing of the agreement has been hailed as a major breakthrough for African development by African countries and organizations as well as external observers of African affairs. This is not the first time African countries have proposed a new organizational and institutional structure for development. African countries have signed at least 13 regional trade agreements (RTAs) for intraregional trade since 1959. However, the track record of these groups has been relatively mediocre compared to RTAs elsewhere. Thus, Africa has the lowest percentage of intracontinental trade in the world.

This book addresses how digital technology is challenging the principles of the market economy and the consequences for economic policy.

In this study on the Japanese economy, the author focuses on three problems related to economic policy and presents their answers. The author analyzes (i) what mechanisms exist for fiscal policy and the price level, (ii) whether the MMT proposition that public deficits increase people’s wealth and savings fits into the standard macro model, and (iii) whether Blanchard's assertion that fiscal deficits are net wealth in the US economy can be applied to Japanese economy as well. The propositions of Sims’ FTPL, Kelton's MMT, Japan's Ricardian type argument, and the non-Ricardian type of government by Blanchard have been understood as independent economic perceptions, but they will be theoretically shown as a coherent story. Namely, this study presents a macroeconomic framework that includes the financial sector and derives Sims’ proposition that “fiscal policy can be the sole determinant of the price level.” It also shows that MMT's claim that "budget deficits increase our wealth and collective savings" can inevitably hold within this framework. Furthermore, it presents a model that consistently explains that public debt leads to financial collapse but contributes to economic welfare.
