    | ISBN-10: 0-596-00471-0 | English | CHM | 0.8 Mb (rar) | 408 Pages | Publisher: O'Reilly Media; 1 edition (December 1, 2003) |

    Book Description
More often than not, the words "sendmail configuration" strike dread in the hearts of sendmail and system administrators–and not without reason. sendmail configuration languages are as complex as any other programming languages, but used much more infrequently–only when sendmail is installed or configured. The average system administrator doesn't get enough practice to truly master this inscrutable technology. Fortunately, there's help. The sendmail Cookbook provides step-by-step solutions for the administrator who needs to solve configuration problems fast. Say you need to configure sendmail to relay mail for your clients without creating an open relay that will be abused by spammers. A recipe in the Cookbook shows you how to do just that. No more wading through pages of dense documentation and tutorials and creating your own custom solution–just go directly to the recipe that addresses your specific problem. Each recipe in the sendmail Cookbook outlines a configuration problem, presents the configuration code that solves that problem, and then explains the code in detail. The discussion of the code is critical because it provides the insight you need to tweak the code for your own circumstances. The sendmail Cookbook begins with an overview of the configuration languages, offering a quick how-to for downloading and compiling the sendmail distribution. Next, you'll find a baseline configuration recipe upon which many of the subsequent configurations, or recipes, in the book are based. Recipes in the following chapters stand on their own and offer solutions for properly configuring important sendmail functions such as:
    Delivering and forwarding mail
    Relaying
    Masquerading
    Routing mail
    Controlling spam
    Strong authentication
    Securing the mail transport
    Managing the queue
    Securing sendmail

Oystein Ramsfjord would be a great name for a Norwegian death metal guitarist. But this Ramsfjord has opted for electronic keyboards and opulent music in the guise of Amethystium. Like his fanciful stage name, derived from the gem Amethyst, Ramsfjord's music is full of fantasy imagery. Titles such as "Arcus," "Shadowlands" and "Satori" give you a glimpse into a music where pristine sounds and descending-from-the-heavens synthesizers charge heroic melodies coasting atop an array of propulsive, almost danceable rhythm loops. Each successive Amethystium CD has gotten a bit less edgy, sweeter in their melodies and plusher in their arrangements, and while he doesn't step over the line into electro-Muzak, he comes close. In the past, his music has been likened to an imaginary soundtrack for The Lord of Rings, but Evermind is more pastoral elfin kingdoms and peaceful shires than storming orcs and demonic wizards. A little bit of that edge, a bit of depth beyond the pretty sounds, might make Evermind more profound than just pleasant listening.

While not without flaws, this second release from Amethystium, aka Oystein Ramfjord (a twenty-something producer from Norway), is another appealing assortment of trance/space/pop/new age textures that may not fully transport you to another dimension, but will set an interesting audio backdrop for the evening. Ramfjord creates inviting, slightly sweetened, slightly mysterious electronic atmospheres, all nudged along by polite grooves and an assortment of subtle, Enigma inspired audio totems (native flutes, Gregorian chant, Middle Eastern vocals). Amethystium is not quite a peer of Enigma, acting more like a mild-mannered distant relative. Stylistic comparisons to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark¸ Mythos, and even Vangelis are also likely to come to mind. Ramfjord's higher-pitched keyboard voices occasionally break the spell his music works hard to cast (as in "Garden of Sakuntala," a pity), but it's a tolerable glitch in this largely inviting 59-minute moodsetter, one that is almost identical in flavor to his debut Odonata.

Amethystium is Norwegian producer Oystein Ramjford on a solo mission. The name is not as memorable as Tangerine Dream or Deep Forest, yet musically, Amethystium shares common ground with both acts. Ramjford's mix of electronics, pop-dance rhythms, and some requisite sonic oddities (subdued Middle Eastern vocals, Gregorian chant, random dollops of native flutes) yields solid results, offering sufficient style and mystery to merit repeated play on an out-there, candlelit night. Amethystium could be described as a subtler Delirium, a less self-conscious Enigma, or a second cousin to Mythos. Ramjford favors a lighter, spacier vibe than most of the aforementioned acts, though. And at his best (on sparkling/pulsing tracks such as "Calantha," "Odyssey," and "Arcane Voices"), he sends an intriguing helix of melody lines on a slow swirl through inviting atmospheric fields. Pedestrian rhythms diminish some tracks, but Odonata remains a promising debut.

The capabilities and computational speed of today's hardware have dramatically enhanced graphics technology. These improvements happen so quickly, however, that it is often difficult for programmers to keep pace. Graphics Programming Methods is a unique collection of application and technique-driven articles that provide practical methods for solving problems facing every graphics programmer. Each article is written by an experienced programmer and details how to apply new techniques or improve upon widely-used methods. Using interesting and advanced research, the collection addresses key issues in animation, geometry, and rendering. All of the research is presented in a practical and approachable manner and most examples include full source code, making immediate implementation of the techniques possible. This innovative collection is a must-have resource for graphics programmers that will help you think critically, expand your knowledge, and create new methods of your own.
