Also the light-hearted playfulness characteristic of the angels. This New Age paradise music pioneer creates crystal vistas - uplifting, gorgeous, spiritually-attuned music from the heavens. 7 years after their last studio album, The Inevitable End, and their farewell to the traditional album format, Röyksopp unveils Profound Mysteries, an expanded creative universe and a prodigious conceptual project. In 2022, they embark on a new chapter in their career and musical oeuvre, exploring technology and nature in a similar fashion as in their youthful days in Tromsø, but with added profundity. "As human beings, what we don't know vastly overshadows what we do know. As teenagers, we would discuss our own fascination and preoccupation with the infinite and the impossible - the most profound mysteries of life." After stepping on a lot of puffball mushrooms out in the forest and emerging from an organic cloud of dust, they deliver their most extensive work to date and reveal once more why only Röyksopp is Röyksopp.

Moby's most unified and understated album, and all the better for it, Wait for Me is a morose set of elegantly bleary material, quite a shift from the hedonistic club tracks of Last Night. Dominated by instrumentals, "Shot in the Back of the Head" is the most evocative of the bunch, seemingly pulled from an unreleased David Lynch film scored by the Afghan Whigs circa Gentlemen - a lament from a dustbowl, full of mournful slide guitar and dewy electric piano. Other than "Mistake" - a glum neo-post-punk rave-up that, despite its cathartic release, remains downcast - Moby leaves the vocals to a series of women (neighborhood chums, apparently) who each contribute to one song. The smoky 3-a.m. gospel whispers from throwback soul singer Leela James on "Walk with Me" steal the show.

Their reputation growing by leaps and bounds, including a huge underground following in the U.S. – they were able to tour there even without one domestic release available, while at one point Dead Can Dance was the biggest selling band in 4AD's history – Perry and Gerrard once again did the business with Aion. Its cover taken from Bosch, Aion's medievalism was worn more openly than ever before, with songs adapted from centuries-old material. The beautiful, entrancing "Saltarello," with lead performance by what sounds like an old wind instrument, comes from an Italian dance of the 14th century, while the mysterious moods of "The Song of the Sibyl" derive from 16th-century Catalonia. The group's command of not merely recording possibilities – witness the exquisite layering of vocals on the opening "The Arrival and the Reunion" – but of musical traditions, instruments, and more from around the world was arguably never stronger. Gerrard's vocals in particular have an even stronger, richer feeling than before, not merely able to command with its power but softly calm and seduce.

Cochin Moon is Haruomi Hosono's fifth solo album. Initially a collaboration between Hosono and illustrator Tadanori Yokoo, of whom traveled to India alongside Hosono; Yokoo ended up only drawing the cover, having been the worst victim of an outburst of severe diarrhea amongst the group during the trip, rendering this as virtually a Hosono solo album. Cochin Moon was written to be the soundtrack of a non-existent Bollywood film, a trait inspired by the artists' trip. The album includes performances by Tin Pan Alley keyboardist Hiroshi Satō and Yellow Magic Orchestra members Ryuichi Sakamoto & Hideki Matsutake.

Sola Translatio is a collaborative work between the italian ambient sound master Alio Die (best known for his previous collaborations with ambient & experimental artists like Robert Rich & Vidna Obmana), and younger Italian newcomer Opium(Matteo Zini). The music moves on abstract drones, minimal rhythms, and "found sounds," rather than being spooky or boring, spreads a calming layer of gentle sound over the listener. It has a nocturnal but serene quality, and feels like the soundtrack for long quiet hours in an elegant Oriental country retreat. It evokes a place one would like to return to, rather than a nightmare from which one struggles to wake. Its a tapestry of mesmerizing low-rumbling melodies/frequencies for a deep listening, where the sounds of nature are always present.

Vangelis' electronic score for a film set in 1930s Britain seemed an odd match at first, but the title theme, with its echoing, manipulated rhythm box and melodic hook, became one of the most popular theme songs of the early '80s…

Facil is a collaboration merging the talents of Dietrich Schoenemann of Prototype 909 and Tension Record's Abe Duque. Abe Duque is a name well known to the underground as the producer behind Techno powerhouse label Tension Records and the Ambient-oriented Rancho Relaxo Records. Abe Duque is also known throughout Europe for his live performances during his annual residence there, several months a year. Drawn together by the relaxed rhythms and Ambient vibes at The Limelight's Rancho Relaxo, these two electronic maestros fell into collaboration and found that the creative tension between their styles was giving birth to a brand-new vibe: an easy, free-flowing, electronic communication of organic beats, liquid soundscapes, and free floating tonalities. Facil is motion-oriented: delivering Dietrich and Abe's own distinctive style of sparkling, clear Ambient beauty.

Listening to the opening tracks of Fremtiden is like being able to hear events on an atomic level, perhaps in a cloud chamber where elementary particles trace minute trajectories, constantly colliding, releasing and absorbing tiny packets of energy. When we reach track 4, however, this subtle sonic ambience has somehow taken on cosmic proportions and the interactions surround us as we float, weightless, in a much larger outer-space. It is a fascinating journey in contemporary drone-based electronica.

This is an epic 'best of' from the great Hans Joachim Roedelius one of the pioneers of Krautrock and early electronica. What's more, he's 74 years old and still producing music, now how's that for commitment to the scene? Working with Kluster, Human Being, forming Cluster with Dieter Mobius and working with Mobius and Michael Rother as Harmonia - the man has covered a lot of ground in his time, and that's never been as evident as on these two discs. We've got squelchy synthesized Krautrock classics, industrial jams, electro-pop, ambient, piano-led classical and more, the variety on here astounds me, I knew his work but you kind of become blind to the experimentation until you hear it all in one place. Listening to 'Works (1968-2005)' is like hearing a bible of electronic music, it contains so many important starting points for many sounds and genres it's quite amazing that it all came from the brain of one troubled producer. Listen to this and find out why you loved electronic music in the first place….
