In 1979 Marvin Gaye finally recorded to his satisfaction the ballads he had for so long wanted to sing. Here is the unreleased album, The Ballads.

Marvin Gaye is not known as a drummer but along with Benny Benjamin, Marvin was one of Motown's first session drummers. Marvin's drumming can be heard on many early Motown records for artists such as The Miracles, Mary Wells, The Contours, The Marvelettes, The Supremes, Martha and The Vandellas and Little Stevie Wonder. This compilation brings together a selection of Motown Classics and Rarities that feature Marvin Gaye playing the drums.

Marvin Gaye's 1978 album, Here, My Dear, which was an autobiographical look at the singer's damaging relationship with his former wife, Anna Gordy, was not a success. Marvin was determined to regain the audience he felt he had lost with the album. Marvin began recording initial demos to what was supposed to be a "party" album to be titled Love Man.

The concert included two unknown movements from Die Schöpfung (The Creation) by Joseph Haydn, an unknown Symphony by Mozart, the performance of his Septet for Strings and Winds, Piano Concerto No. 1 and the presentation of his Symphony No. 1
