In 1979 Marvin Gaye finally recorded to his satisfaction the ballads he had for so long wanted to sing. Marvin claimed he had presented the recordings to Motown and the album was shelved as uncommercial but there is no evidence that Marvin did indeed present the recordings to Motown. It may be the case that Marvin himself withheld the recordings as he became insecure about a possible release. The recordings themselves are works of art and presented for the first time as a complete album.
