Melancholy is book of poems written by several poets from different countries in Africa. All the poems in the book were written under the same theme which is ‘Depression’ but from different angles, some poems are from an angle of a person battling with depression, a person feeling defeated by depression, life after defeating depression, and etc. The aim of the book is to raise awareness about depression amongst young people especially in the black nationality because in Africa, depression is taken lightly by black families and this is due to lack of knowledge about the deadly disease and also to let people going through depression know that they are not alone in this, there are many ways of dealing with depression that do not include hurting yourself, committing suicide and drugs & alcohol abuse which is ART (writing your experience in a form of a song, a poem or even memes.) and that there is a way out, there is hope.
