"I just follow the breeze," twentyish drifter Berry-Berry Willart boasts. "I just live for kicks." And, oh, how Berry-Berry's younger brother Clinton idolizes that breezy, kicky lifestyle.
But events will soon make Clinton see through Berry-Berry. And admiration will turn to loathing.
The year after Warren Beatty debuted in William Inge's Splendor in the Grass, the rising star portrayed Berry-Berry in an Inge-scripted drama based on the novel by Midnight Cowboy's James Leo Herlihy. John Frankenheimer, like Beatty an alumnus of live TV, directs the skilled cast that includes Eva Marie Saint as a woman vulnerable to Berry-Berry's skin-deep charms and Brandon de Wilde as impressionable Clinton.
