Part 1: Lion
Beginning at a sanctuary in South Africa, where she witnesses an extraordinary operation inside the jaws of a lion. Nine-year-old Ricci has problems with his teeth so severe that he is unable to feed properly. One of the world's leading vets is on hand to fix the problem, using an array of specially made tools. But things take a dangerous twist when the patient begins to wake up from the anaesthetic midway through.
Part 2: Chimpanzee
Liz Bonnin visits a sanctuary in Sierra Leone to witness a life-saving operation on a young chimpanzee. The animal has a rapidly growing lump on its abdomen and its keepers are worried it is a cancerous tumour. A leading vet uses techniques developed in the world of human medicine to diagnose and remove the lump. But the story takes a dangerous twist.
Part 3: Elephant
Liz Bonnin travels to Tbilisi in Georgia where she watches an operation on an Asian elephant named Grande. Having survived a catastrophic flood at the zoo where he lives, Grande has a badly infected tusk which needs removing. But the vet is working against the clock as every minute Grande is under anaesthetic, the weight of his own body risks damaging his vital organs.
