Bangladeshi migrant worker Karim (Mahbub Alam Pollob) came to Korea in hopes of a better life, but everyday he is faced with discrimination, misunderstandings, and cultural barriers. He's leaving Korea in a month, but before that he has to find his unscrupulous ex-boss to claim his rightful pay. Mouthy, rebellious teen Min Seo (Baek Jin Hee) hates living with her single mother and her deadbeat lover in a cramped apartment. She starts working in a massage parlor to save up money to attend an English academy. One day these two young people from different worlds cross paths…
Acclaimed indie director Shin Dong Il follows Host and Guest and My Friend and His Wife with the cross-cultural drama Bandhobi. The word "Bandhobi" means "friend" in Bengali, and true to its title, the film depicts an unlikely friendship that develops between a Muslim migrant and a Korean schoolgirl. Spunky newcomer Baek Jin Hee and Bangladeshi actor Mahbub Alam Pollob, who also appeared in the Korean indie Where is Ronny, make a charming pair of accidental companions in this humanist urban drama about the common journey shared by two uncommon friends. Also co-starring Lee Il Hwa (Romantic Island), Bandhobi provides a realistic and sensitive cross-section of Korean society through the growing pains of a teenage girl, and the experiences of a foreign laborer.
