Ramses is a somewhat shy 20-year old boy who has been living in a rural commune under sect-like conditions for 8 years. With piercings all over his body and dressed in robes, he has been studying the teachings of Kahn-Goeroe. When he is about to undergo a rather painful initiation rite, his sister Natasha visits and tells him their father is sick and dying. Ramses receives permission to leave, and together they head for Amsterdam. Once outside the commune, Ramses who isn't used to making his own decisions, learns about love and he meets a Palestinian prophet who is expecting the Messiah to land on the roof of his flat on the outskirts of Amsterdam.

The parody on religious fanaticism and millennialism, which involves the topics of self mutilation, incest, and euthanasia, is the director's first full-length movie. It premiered at the 1999 International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Jezus is een Palestijn is a satire on the end of the century obsession with spirituality. The story follows Ramses Hans Teeuwen, a 25 year old member of a religious sect that uses piercing as its spiritual profession. For eight years, Ramses has been living like a hermit in an agricultural commune. Now he returns to Amsterdam to visit his dying father. His younger sister Natasja (Kim van Kooten of Little Sister fame) comes to pick him up. As soon as he leaves the commune, he falls in love with Lonneke (Dijn Blom), the roommate of his sister, and he has to make a choice between celibacy and relationship. He then finds out that his father isn't actually dying, and when faced with adult decision making, he has to consult his Guru. Director Lodewijk Crijns who is known for his fake documentaries Kutzooi and La Rouge, wanted to explore the motivation of a person who would convert to a new faith at a certain point in their life, which often is a point of crisis. The end result is a parody of fashion trends that pass as spirituality in our modern Western culture. the funniest dutch film ever

I don't care what anyone says about this film. For one thing it is very silly, but it is also extremely cool and funny. A film like this could never have been made by anyone but an eccentric Dutch director.
His latest film Met Grote Blijdschap shows of a greater talent to direct actors and get the most out of them, but it's also a lot more boring and serious.
Jesus is een Palestijn totally takes the p… at religious cults both for the unquestionable faith and the money they ask from their followers. Thereby I like to think it challenges the whole idea of religion and following any leader who doesn't allow you your own world views. For this reason this film is pretty daring and certainly unconventional.
I thought it was extremely funny and inventive. Hans Teeuwen, a stand-up comedian in real life, is very disarming as the friendly and somewhat naive Ramses, stuck under the "tiranny" of his Indian guru and his blind followers. Kim van Kooten manages to make a convincing dominating and bitchy sister.
The scenes taking place in the multi-cultural Bijlmer brilliantly put this often forsaken neighbourhood in the spotlight. The scenes taking place at the cult's area are shot at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, as some would like to know.
The film is not a serious one and doesn't have any pretentions about that. It's uncomplicated and forward, uncompromising and fresh. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it on TV. I guess some would call it crap or nonsense, which it's also, both! That's exactly why I think this is the funniest Dutch film ever made. Not for everyone I'm sure though.
