Gabin stars as a wanted killer (he had murdered his mistress) who stows away on a ship and disembarks in Genoa, looking for a dentist to cure his toothache. There he meets a little girl, Talchi, and is introduced to her beautiful mother, Miranda, who works as a waitress.
