Celebrity presenters look at the development of the NHS through their own often harrowing personal experiences.
Episode 1:
Five famous faces with personal reason to thank the NHS return to the hospitals where they were treated and share their experiences with us. Two years ago Fern Britton was rushed to Stoke Mandeville after she developed life-threatening sepsis. She recovered well but others were not quite so lucky and we meet one man who had to have his legs amputated and reconstructive surgery on his face after a small cut caused a massive infection. She also reports on changing medical techniques, the history of germs and gets a lesson in washing her hands properly.

Episode 2:
Hairy Biker Si King returns to north-east England to examine the period in 2014 when he suffered a brain aneurysm, revealing how the NHS was critical in saving his life.

Episode 3:
Dr Rangan Chatterjee examines how the NHS has treated kidney disease through the years, reuniting with the team who treated his father for kidney failure.

Episode 4:
Former CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell looks at how the NHS has served disabled people, speaking to Thalidomide survivor Louise and recent double amputee Paolo. Cerrir also returns to Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton, where - having been born with one arm - she was brought as a little girl to be fitted with a prosthetic limb.

Episode 5:
Former athlete Denise Lewis recalls her grandmother's career in the NHS, meeting patients and staff at the hospital where she worked and was eventually treated. Last in the series.
