Roma marchează întoarcerea lui Alfonso Cuarón acasă, în Mexic, şi este totodată văzut ca cel mai personal film al regizorului, fiind inspirat de poveştile femeilor din copilăria sa. Cel mai personal proiect de până acum al regizorului și scenaristului premiat cu Oscar Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien), Roma urmărește povestea lui Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), o tânără angajată în casa unei familii din cartierul de clasă mijlocie Roma din Mexico City. Prin crearea unei scrisori de iubire adresate femeilor care l-au crescut, Cuarón pornește de la propria sa copilărie pentru a crea un portret viu și emoționant al conflictelor interne și al ierarhiei sociale în timpul turbulențelor politice din anii 1970. Primul proiect al lui Cuarón de la revoluționarul Gravity din 2013.
