James Kirk who after rescuing Mr. Spock and bringing him to Vulcan where he is fully restored, is now the most hated man in the universe, because he disobeyed his superiors and killed a Klingon crew and took their ship. After three months on Vulcan, Kirk decides to return to Earth to face the consequences of his actions along with his crew who aided him. О фильме: Возвращаясь домой с Вулкана на экспроприированном клингонском космическом корабле, Керк и его команда заранее готовятся к худшему. Хотя долг чести выполнен, и Спок снова с нами живой и здоровый, у команды нет более причин радоваться, особенно когда они начинают вспоминать о попутно содеянных проступках.

Но реальность оказывается куда мрачнее — к Земле приблизился огромный космический корабль неизвестной конструкции, транслирующий на планету запросы на языке китов, к 23-му веку окончательно вымерших. Странный корабль имеет свойство воздействовать на погоду, которая устраивает на Земле сплошные ливни, грозы, ураганы и смерчи. Анализ ситуации позволяет предположить, что если благодаря какому-то чуду на Земле снова появятся киты, то это стабилизирует ситуацию и разрешит надвигающийся конфликт.
И как вы думаете, кто способен сотворить чудо? Естественно, капитан Керк и его команда! Они готовы отправиться в прошлое для того, чтобы найти китов и доставить их в будущее ради спасения всей планеты.
