    NASA's spacecraft, named Lucy, will use Earth's gravity to gain momentum for its journey to the Jupiter Trojan asteroids. On October 16th, Lucy will pass just 350 kilometers above the Earth's surface, allowing it to gain the orbital energy it needs to continue its 12-year voyage. The Trojan asteroids, located at the same distance as Jupiter, have never been visited before. This gravity assist will set Lucy on a new two-year orbit, after which it will return to Earth for a second gravity assist. This second assist will provide Lucy with the energy required to cross the main asteroid belt and observe asteroid 'Donaldjohanson', before reaching the leading Trojan asteroid swarm.
