DVD Savant
British Columbia is too dull for Christine. Ditto for suburban L.A. with her button-down boyfriend. Only one place holds excitement for the eager 19-year-old: Las Vegas. Jacqueline Bisset (Bullitt, Day For Night) stars in this compelling portrait of Christine, a Vegas showgirl unable to stop her life's downward spiral.
Neither talented nor ambitious enough to escape the chorus line, Christine enters a troubled marriage with an ex-footballer (Jim Brown), becomes the focal point of a mob hit, finds momentary comfort as mistress of a millionaire (Joseph Cotton), then drifts into full-time prostitution, all by age 22.
This insightful drama shows another side of writers/producers Garry Marshall and Jerry Belson, more noted as comedy kingpins. Let this "remarkable, neglected film" (Steven G. Scheuer, Movies on TV) reveal to you the secrets behind a showgirl's smile.
