    Die Geschichte der 1. Gebirgsdivision 1941 - 1942 - DVD - Am 9. April 1938 wurde die 1. Gebirgsdivision in Garmisch-Partenkirchen aufgestellt und wuchs rasch auf eine Stärke von 20.000 Mann an. Zu Beginn des Rußlandfeldzuges am 22. Juni 1941 stieß die "Edelweißdivision" an ihrem Frontabschnitt in einen Aufmarsch von 122 Divisionen der Roten Armee mit über 10.000 Panzern und 91 Fliegergeschwadern allein an der Südfront. In härtesten Gefechten kämpften sich die Gebirgsjäger bis auf den Gipfel des Elbrus - des höchsten Berges im Kaukasus! - vor und setzten damit militärisch wie auch alpinistisch Maßstäbe fast übermenschlicher Leistungsfähigkeit. In bewegenden Augenzeugenberichten, illustriert durch packende Originalaufnahmen (u.a. von der Besteigung des 5633 m hohen Elbrus-Gipfels im Jahre 1942!) wird unter Federführung des renommierten britischen Buch- und Filmautors der Siegeszug und Leidensweg der 1. Gebirgsdivision von Juni 1941 bis Dezember 1942 nachvollzogen.
