BBC - Eye for an Elephant (2006)

An "Eye For An Elephant" is the story of a cameraman with a love for the greatest creatures on earth, the African elephant. From secretive elephants deep in the Congo to a female elephant giving birth at night, Martyn Colbeck has seen - and filmed - it all. His passion for these giant creatures has led to a career in recording the most astonishing elephant images ever seen.

Martyn Colbeck travelled through Africa searching for captivating images of the world's largest land creature - the African elephant. Reading their minds and anticipating their every move, he probably understands them better than anyone - even elephant researchers.

In 1990, he teamed up with elephant researcher Cynthia Moss and decided to make a film on elephant behaviour, following one particular family of elephants. The result: a 15-year project that unlocked the magic and mystery of these enormous animals. In its final form, Colbeck's work masterfully documented the lives of the elephants, from their subtle tenderness to their family life and social structure.

Colbeck followed the family of female elephant 'Echo' as she matured from a young matriarch to an experienced grandmother, leading a family of 30 individuals.
