The minor classic film concerns a troubled ex-stripper and divorcee Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe) in Reno, Nevada for a quickie divorce. With difficulty, she practices her lines to a divorce judge with her experienced, wisecracking landlady Isabelle Steers (Thelma Ritter), to rid herself of husband Raymond (Kevin McCarthy). Through Isabelle, she is introduced first to ex-mechanic, former WWII pilot, and widower Guido Racanelli (Eli Wallach) and then in a local bar to aging, washed-out 'real-life' cowboy Gay Langland (Clark Gable), a rugged individualist.

Both are interested in the young voluptuous blonde woman, although she eventually falls in love with the gallant Langland - who is old enough to be her father. They are offered an unfinished house in the desert, abandoned by heartbroken Guido after the death of his wife, and they move in together. Roslyn is exhilarated by the freedom of the wide open spaces, and a new, growing passionate relationship with Langland.

The trio of men – Langland, Guido, and reckless, worn-out, injured 'rodeo cowboy' rider Perce Howland (Montgomery Clift) – team up to go after a herd of wild horses in the desert highlands for a last roundup, and they take Roslyn along. After Guido's small airplane guides and terrorizes the animals down from the hills, the others lasso and roundup the 'misfit' horses from a speeding pick-up truck.

Roslyn is ultimately shocked to learn that these free and wild horses will be slaughtered and cheaply sold to a dog food company for pet food. She hysterically screams at them, accusing them of being murderers - in a dramatic long shot - gesturing and attempting to persuade Langland to call off the roundup. When he refuses, she successfully appeals to Perce to release the horses that have already been captured. This infuriates wrangler Langland, who recaptures the stallion leader of the horses after a rough struggle. Sources claim that Gable's subsequent heart-attack, only about two weeks after filming ended, was due to executing his own strenuous, bronc-busting stunts without a double.

Directed by John Huston and written by Arthur Miller, THE MISFITS is unique in Hollywood history as the last film of both Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, and it was also one of the last films that Montgomery Clift would make.

Miller famously wrote the script as a tribute to Monroe, to whom he was married at the time, but the strain of the production ended up destroying their marraige. THE MISFITS set was famously plagued with all sorts of problems, including heavy drinking and gambling by John Huston and Marilyn Monroe’s further descent into alcoholism which lead to a stint in the hospital to detox during filming.

Instead of trying to wrangle a 5.1 presentation out of The Misfits' rather spartan soundtrack, MGM has wisely opted to go with a faithful-to- source DTS-HD Master Audio mono mix. As you'd expect coming from Arthur Miller, dialogue is the most prevalent element here, and for the post part it sounds clean and strong, with no muffling or crackling. I did notice some slight modulations in vocal volume during the early part of the film, but these could possibly be an intentional part of the sound design. (The actors' voices seem to lower whenever the camera cuts away.) It's hard to say, but regardless, it's not a big enough distraction to matter. Alex North's moody score has as much depth and expressiveness as a single-channel mix can deliver, and the few effects that are called for—mostly during the rodeo and horse-rustling final act—have decent presence.

The Misfits Blu-ray, Overall Score and Recommendation
A gloominess hangs over The Misfits; it's about characters who don't fit into a world that has passed them by, and it was the last film for Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, who would both die soon thereafter. The darkness is fitting, though, and in a way it adds to film's lasting beauty. Arthur Miller's too-loose script holds The Misfits back from classic status, but this is still a movie that demands to be seen. Thankfully, MGM has done a brilliant job with this Blu-ray release, lack of special features aside. Recommended!

Recovery Volumes (.rev)
Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.
This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.
Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.
WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.
You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.
Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
