Un samurai senza nome e senza padrone arriva in una piccola cittadina stranamente silenziosa e senza vita. Alloggiatosi nella locanda, viene a sapere dall'oste che in città, dove regnano l'apatia e corruzione più sfrenate, è da tempo in corso una guerra logorante tra due potenti yakuza, Seibei e Ushitora, e decide di fare qualcosa per mettere fine a questa situazione di caos; tuttavia, sapendo di non potere niente contro gli eserciti di tagliagole e mercenari che Seibei e Ushitora hanno raccolto attorno a sé, capisce che la cosa migliore da fare è spingere i due capi a uno scontro diretto che li finisca entrambi.

Come prima cosa mette in mostra le proprie abilità uccidendo senza problemi tre uomini di Ushitora, quindi si offre come guardia di Seibei per la considerevole cifra di cinquanta ryou, ma un attimo prima della battaglia, sapendo anche che Seibei e la sua malevola moglie Orin intendono ucciderlo a cose fatte per non doverlo pagare, si tira indietro. Purtroppo, contro i suoi piani, subito prima che i due eserciti arrivino allo scontro si sparge la notizia che l'amministratore imperiale sta arrivando in città, cosa che costringe inevitabilmente le due parti a dichiarare una tregua e a riportare il villaggio ad una parvente condizione di serenità.

L'ispettore si intrattiene per diversi giorni, con grande dispiacere del bottaio vicino dell'oste, che negli ultimi tempi si era arricchito sfruttando la guerra in corso tra i due clan, e nel frattempo Saibei e Ushitora fanno a gara per cercare di accaparrarsi i servizi del samurai senza nome, presentatosi come Sanjuro. Per tentare di portare Sanjuro dalla sua parte Ushitora gli rivela che il conflitto è prossimo a ricominciare; infatti, ha fatto uccidere da due dei suoi uomini, Hachi e Kuma, il capo di un villaggio vicino, cosa che costringerà l'ispettore a ripartire.

La sfida del samurai (用心棒 Yōjimbō?, lett. "La guardia del corpo") è un film del regista giapponese Akira Kurosawa del 1961; il titolo originale Yōjinbō significa letteralmente "guardia del corpo". Il film è stato l'ispirazione per il primo film western di Sergio Leone, Per un pugno di dollari (1964), capostipite del genere spaghetti-western, con Clint Eastwood.

English Storyline
Sanjuro, a wandering samurai enters a rural town in nineteenth century Japan. After learning from the innkeeper that the town is divided between two gangsters, he plays one side off against the other. His efforts are complicated by the arrival of the wily Unosuke, the son of one of the gangsters, who owns a revolver. Unosuke has Sanjuro beaten after he reunites an abducted woman with her husband and son, then massacres his father's opponents. During the slaughter, the samurai escapes with the help of the innkeeper; but while recuperating at a nearby temple, he learns of innkeeper's abduction by Unosuke, and returns to the town to confront him.

Recovery Volumes (.rev)
Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.
This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.
Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.
WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.
You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.
Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
