Il film inizia con una riunione dei giocattoli, alla fine della quale si genera il caos perché viene annunciato che quel giorno è il compleanno di Andy. Tutti i giocattoli hanno paura di esser sostituiti, tranne Woody, il preferito. Per calmare gli altri, Woody decide di mandare un piccolo gruppo di soldatini a vedere che regali vengono consegnati ad Andy, e trovano solo una scatola, della quale non riescono a capire cosa sia il contenuto. Avendo sentito che i bambini stanno arrivando al piano di sopra dove si trova la camera di Andy, tutti i giocattoli si affrettano a tornare al proprio posto. Quando Andy arriva, Woody è spostato dal suo posto, il centro del letto, e messo sul pavimento, per far spazio al nuovo, famoso Buzz Lightyear. Il conflitto tra i due si sviluppa nella gelosia di Woody nei confronti di Buzz, ma cadendo accidentalmente in strada, i due rivali sono costretti ad allearsi per fronteggiare insieme i pericoli del mondo esterno.

A little boy named Andy loves to be in his room, playing with his toys, especially his doll named "Woody". But, what do the toys do when Andy is not with them, they come to life. Woody believes that he has life (as a toy) good. However, he must worry about Andy's family moving, and what Woody does not know is about Andy's birthday party. Woody does not realize that Andy's mother gave him an action figure known as Buzz Lightyear, who does not believe that he is a toy, and quickly becomes Andy's new favorite toy. Woody, who is now consumed with jealousy, tries to get rid of Buzz. Then, both Woody and Buzz are now lost. They must find a way to get back to Andy before he moves without them, but they will have to pass through a ruthless toy killer, Sid Phillips.

Recovery Volumes (.rev)
Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.
This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.
Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.
WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.
You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.
Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
