A woman suspected of murdering her doctor boyfriend has an identical twin sister. When both twins have an alibi for the night of the murder, a psychiatrist is called in to assist a detective in solving the case. Through a series of tests, he discovers which twin actually committed the crime and in the course of his investigation he falls in love with the normal twin.

    IMDB Rating: 7.0/10

    The Dark Mirror (1946)

This psychological thriller tells the story of a pair of identical twins, one loving and nice and the other severely disturbed. A doctor is killed and witnesses identify one of the twins as the person seen having a quarrel with the victim shortly before his death. A detective investigating the case cannot determine which twin did the killing since each can provide an alibi for the other. The cops ask for assistance from a doctor who studies twins to help crack the case.

    The Dark Mirror (1946)

Siodmak’s direction is workman-like with some flair reserved only for the opening scene and the climactic scenes towards the end. The fluid opening scene sees the camera pan from a cityscape at night to a building in the foreground, through a window into a darkened room, up to a smashed mirror, and then down to a man dead on the floor.

    The Dark Mirror (1946)

The smashed mirror is also a book-end in the film’s closing scene – the dark reflection has to be destroyed. As the drama heightens towards the denouement, the insanity of one of the protagonists is melodramatically rendered in a darkened room at night, where key lighting focuses attention on the crazed eyes of a psychopath.

    The Dark Mirror (1946)

The picture is carried by an elegant and accomplished performance from Olivier de Havilland in the double role of the twin sisters. As their personalities diverge with the story’s progression, so her performance strengthens. By the climax, she is breathtaking. Thomas Mitchell is entertaining as the cop investigating the murder. Interesting use of a psychologist’s tool-set, Rorschach inkblots, word association, and a polygraph, carry the centre of the film to its dramatic conclusion.

    The Dark Mirror (1946)

The Dark Mirror is a 1946 American psychological thriller film directed by Robert Siodmak, starring Olivia de Havilland as twins and Lew Ayres as their psychiatrist. The film marks Ayres' return to motion pictures following his conscientious objection to service in World War II. De Havilland had begun to experiment with method acting at the time and insisted that everyone in the cast meet with a psychiatrist. The film anticipates producer/screenwriter Nunnally Johnson's psycho-docu-drama The Three Faces of Eve (1957). Vladimir Pozner's original story on which the film is based was nominated for an Academy Award.

    Recovery Volumes (.rev)

Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.

This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.

Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.

WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.

You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.

Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
