James Bond (Roger Moore, here on his fourth mission) is to investigate the disappearance of a Space Shuttle (called Moonraker, in fact). Was to shield it from the billionaire Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale), the same who had won the British government.
007 will soon discover the evil intentions of the villain, who wants to create a new kind of earthly race and for this purpose select young couples who temporarily carry into space in Moonraker 6 (the theft of one of them was due just to a failure in the test had a units).
Drax would first destroy all forms of human life (not animal or plant) on Earth, spilling its space station (with a diameter of 200 meters, but obscured from Earth by an appropriate shield radar) 50 large bulbs containing nerve gas, and every bulb , launched at regular intervals is able to destroy 100 million human beings. Will in time only to drop three and it's up to Bond and his ally, CIA agent Dr. Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles), destroy them in time.

James Bond (Roger Moore, qui alla sua quarta missione) deve indagare sulla sparizione di uno Space Shuttle (denominato Moonraker, appunto). A sottrarlo è stato il miliardario Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale), lo stesso che lo aveva donato al governo britannico.
007 scoprirà presto le diaboliche intenzioni del villain, che vuole creare una sorta di nuova razza terrestre e a questo scopo seleziona giovani coppie che trasporterà provvisoriamente nello spazio in 6 Moonraker (il furto di uno di essi era dovuto proprio ad una avaria avuta nel collaudo di una unità).
Drax vorrebbe distruggere preliminarmente ogni forma di vita umana (non animale o vegetale) sulla Terra, spargendo dalla sua stazione spaziale (dal diametro di 200 metri, ma resa invisibile dalla Terra da una opportuna schermatura radar) 50 grossi bulbi contenenti gas nervino; ogni bulbo, lanciato ad intervalli regolari è in grado di sterminare 100 milioni di esseri umani. Farà in tempo a sganciarne solo tre e toccherà a Bond e alla sua alleata, l'agente della CIA dottoressa Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles), distruggerli in tempo.
