Voilà sept ans que Jean et Michelle Doset s'aiment d'un amour indestructible. Michelle est vendeuse chez un fleuriste et Jean a du mal à écrire son deuxième roman. Les difficultés financières s'accumulent et cela fait deux mois qu'ils n'ont pas payé le loyer. Mais voilà qu'après des années de galère, leur voisin d'en face meurt et leur laisse son hôtel particulier en héritage, "Un don à la jeunesse et à l'amour" dit le testament. Un testament qui exige cependant qu'ils reprennent à leur service Clémence, la gouvernante. Celle-ci sera leur premier cauchemar. Ils la soupçonnent bientôt d'avoir tué le propriétaire. Mais la maison peu hospitalière contient encore bien d'autres cauchemars, tous plus effrayants les uns que les autres.

A young writer, Jean, and his wife Michelle are struggling to make ends meet when, out of the blue, they inherit a luxurious house opposite their own meagre apartment. The house belonged to Monsieur Guillemet, whom never of them met before and who stipulated in his will that the house is theirs providing they do not dispose of his private papers and they continue to employ his housekeeper, Clémence. The apparent dream come true soon begins to turn into a nightmare when Jean discovers that Guillemet may have been murdered and that both Clémence and his wife have many secrets to hide…
