    Pour faire le point après une cruelle déception amoureuse, Claire, la trentaine, décide de passer quelques jours en province chez son père, Albert. Dans le train qui emmène la jeune femme a également pris place le commissaire Joubert, dépêché dans le petit village pour enquêter sur le meurtre d'un photographe. A l'enterrement de la victime, Claire retrouve certaines de ses connaissances et observe les comportements de l'assistance. Joubert comprend vite que l'affaire est plus complexe qu'il n'y paraît…
