Eliot Fisk really took on one of the ultimate challenges of classical guitar in interpreting these dynamic masterpieces of the violin… Eliot succeeded in producing an amazing recording of Paganini's Caprices that captures that gypsy-esque "wild abandon" in the interpretation that is necessary for such flamboyant music… there are passages that are abit sloppy &/or rushed in Fisk's recording BUT even Perlman does this in his wonder-full renditions of these Caprices… to me, it is the passionate spirit of the interpretation that allows me to overlook whatever minor technical flaws in Fisk's playing in this recording… Fisk's understanding of the "feel" of these pieces keeps this fierce music from being boring & pedantic as i have heard in other interpretations of various Caprices… truly exciting listening & unique instrumentation ! one of my alltime favorite acoustic guitar recordings !
Master U.Shrinivas has proved that he fulfils this to the hilt. A rather inconspicuous member of the western orchestra, Shrinivas has revived and raised the mandolin, an unknown instrument and given it a respectable status in classical music. His music acumen has assumed many dimensions. He glides over the gamut with ease traversing 4 octaves with subtle deflections and suave certainty. Every phrase, every design falls into place in the octaval build up of the raga. He can evolve and execute the most intricate fraction-ridden swara combinations that would keep any accompanist on edge.
First CD issue of 1968 album by the producer and arranger behind Brazil's legendary Os Mutantes, who together with Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa were one of the bands to revolutionize Brazilian music and create Tropicalia - a genre in its own right. Drawing from the Beatles ('Flying', 'Lady Madonna') and other popular hits of yore ('Honey', 'Judy In Disguise') as well as his own compositions, Duprat seamlessly blends pop, easy listening and smooth bossa with spectacular orchestral arrangements and far-out freakouts of the decidedly acid variety, creating one of the most individual sounds of the late Sixties. Mutantes themselves appear on four tracks. El. 2005.
Bismillah Khan is an outstanding and popular contemporary shehnai player. He has attained astonishing mastery over the instrument. He was born into a family of shehnai players and it was natural that he would train in the art of playing shenai.
He was born in a small village called Dumraon in the Shahbad district of Bihar, on November 21, 1916. His early childhood was spent in Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganga, where his uncle was the official shehnai player in the famous Vishwanath temple. His elder brother was also a renowned shehnai player. His father, Paigamber Bax, was a musician for the Dumraon State.
An Italian chamber orchestra, Rondó Veneziano set itself apart from many groups of similar style by not only employing mostly women musicians and making it a rule to perform in period Baroque dress, but mainly because they were able to meld traditional chamber music pieces to modern backing tracks, rhythms, and percussion lines, almost giving their classical sound a club music foundation that sometimes bordered on prog rock.
